How to calibrate a weight scale

Mar 18, 2024

The balance is a common tool in our daily lives, but if it is not calibrated correctly, the readings it gives may be wrong. This article will guide you on how to calibrate your weight scale;

1. Decide whether your weight scale needs calibration or not

Firstly, you need to know if your weight scale actually needs calibration or not. You can try putting something of known weight on the device and see if the reading is accurate. In case it’s not, then this indicates that there is a problem with the calibration mechanism of your weighing machine.

2. Find the button for calibration

Most electronic weight scales have some kind of button that says“Cal”or“Function”. Find this button as it will be needed when starting up the process of calibration.

3. Start Calibration

When you press the calibration button on most weight scales, it usually displays a number which represents where the present calibration setting of that particular balance is at. Before pressing again to initiate calibration, you are supposed to adjust this number so that it reads zero.

4. Calibrate using objects of known weight

Then take an object with a definite mass and place it on top of the weight scale. The weight scale should measure its weight like 0 or 1000grams If the displayed weight doesn’t correspond with actual one you can use calibration buttons to set them at ones normal position.

5. Finish calibrating

Pressing Calibration button once shows correct Weight in figure which means successful completion of this process called calibrating
Finally press Calibration Button on Your weight scale and now your weight scale is rightly adjusted giving exact measurements.

Note that different weight scales may come with distinct processes for carrying out their respective calibrations hence necessary reference from user manual can help confirm whether they are done as expected or not .For those not knowing how to operate their weight scales during such times should consider asking makers for guidelines .
